Medical Massage

Today, massage therapy isn't offered only through spa treatment centers as they once were, but offered in businesses, clinics, and hospitals. Massage therapy is generally considered a part of complementary and alternative medicine. It is increasingly being offered alongside standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and life situations. It may also address stress-related issues such as lower back pain, depression, and high blood pressure.

Medical massage therapy can provide benefits such as the following:

-Relaxation of injured and overused muscles
-Increased blood circulation
-Stimulation of lymph nodes (the human body's network to get rid of toxins and waste)
-Release of endorphins
-Reduce pain/anxiety and increase relaxation associated with insomnia
-Improve post-operative healing
-Increased joint flexibility
-Lowering muscles tension in high-stress areas
-Relaxation of injured and overused muscles
-Reduced muscle spasms
-Providing quicker recovery from sports injuries
-Pain relief from migraines and/or headaches
-Improved range of motion

With all these benefits, however, massage may not be appropriate if you have one of the following:
-Bleeding disorders or take blood-thinning medication
-Severe burns or healing wounds
-Deep vein thrombosis
-Fractures
-Severe osteoporosis
-Severe thrombocytopenia

Some forms of massage may leave you feeling minor soreness the next day, but ordinarily massage shouldn't be painful or uncomfortable. To learn more about each style of massage Jonathan practices, please click the links below (more links coming soon).
